Dear Friends,

We enclose an A4 Word leaflet for the protest at Harmondsworth on 15th June. This is part of the week of Action which includes a protest at Dungavel on the same day, a protest in Dover on 16th and a National Demo on 22nd. The media and politicians get more hysterical and racist day by day in their attacks on asylum seekers.

  • Blair is talking about instant deportation and sending armed forces to patrol the Mediterranean.
  • Daily images of Sangatte are linked up with the ‘war on terrorism’.
  • Many more detention centres are to be built to imprison people without trial.
  • Immigration snatch squads - with more powers than the police to break and enter - are forcing their way into homes in the small hours in order to deport people.

Please copy this leaflet around and do your best to support the protest at Harmondsworth on the 15th at 12.00 noon to 2.00pm.

Best wishes, Oliver and Eve closedownharmondsworth@hotmail.com

How To Get To Harmondsworth Detention Centre

Harmondsworth Detention Centre is on the Colnbrook By-Pass, which is the A4 just North and a bit West of Heathrow Airport.

By Bus Except for the 81, buses go from Heathrow Central, which is next to Heathrow 1,2,3 Tube Station. (If you’re skint, it might be cheaper to go via Hounslow West tube, which is another zone. If you’re loaded, you could get a fast train to Heathrow from Paddington.)

U3 Bus. This runs every 15 mins and takes 10 mins. From Heathrow it heads north, then turns left on to the A4. When the bus turns right into Hatch Lane towards Harmondsworth village get off (I’m not sure where the bus stop is) and carry on walking down the A4 to the Detention Centre. It is about 400 yards on the right just after the Sheraton Heathrow Hotel.

H30 Bus. This runs every 15 mins and takes 10 mins. From Heathrow it heads north, then turns left on to the A4. Get off just after a sign saying turn right to Harmondsworth (this means the village, not the detention centre). On the left are a MacDonalds and a Total Garage. The Detention Centre is a little further down the A4, on the right hand side just after the Sheraton Heathrow Hotel.

74,75,76 Buses. They each run hourly, so every 20 mins between them. The route is as for the H30. They run to High Wycombe, Maidenhead and Hedgerley Common respectively, in case you come from those parts.

81 bus. The bus stop is opposite Hounslow West Tube Station. It runs every 20 minutes and takes 17 minutes.

The 81 goes down the A4. Get off as for the H30.

By Car Come of the M4 at Junction 4, towards Heathrow. After about a mile turn right on to the A4. You should now be driving west, away from London. After about a mile a sign says Harmondsworth is to the right but carry on, there is a fork left next to a MacDonalds and a Total Garage. Take this fork and park straight away. Carry on down the A4 on foot, the Detention Centre is on the other side of the road just after the Sheraton Heathrow Hotel.

If you are coming down the A4 from the other direction you will know you are nearly there when you get to a new road junction with traffic lights and a sign for British Airways Waterside to the left. Carry on straight and the new Detention building is visible on the left. You can’t park too near.

Getting Back We have to end the protest by 2.00pm or the guards don’t allow visits. If you have a car, please fill up the seats to drop people off at a tube station.
