The state labor law is, employers must give a 15 min break, 1/2 hr lunch, 15 min break.

If you work in the State of California you are entitled to a break. You should brush up in California labor laws theyre suppose to posted at every terminal. Dont let these companies push you around. Call the business agent even if you a casual and ask him for information and support. If the business agent is busy for 63 call 13 and ask them to enforce the labor law.

I got a 15% ctd job yesterday and I got a lunch from 11:45am-1pm I never got a break in the morning or in the afternoon. I asked the boss Derek why I didnt get a morning break and he said they dont give breaks there. What am I entitled too? Is it just a 1 hour lunch? He said they give 10 hours instead of getting breaks and it was a 7am start but the ticket was stamped at 7:53am & I know we only get time worked. Just wondering. (I was working at LB34 the Co. was CUT) I was working the Steel side. Thanks for your help in this.

To all casuals who have a computer the Pacific Coast Marine Safty Code is available on PMAs web site and can be downloaded, at least it was the last time I looked. Casuals have a right to union representaion by law on the job. Im hearing stories of casuals being asked to break the rules of the contract. Like working till 12:30p.m., going to lunch for a half hour and working till 5p.m. etc. Before you call the BA do your homework and make sure you have a legitimate beef. The PCLCD is also on the PMA. Check it out. Its good to know what your opposition is doing.
