CHARLESTON, S.C. – A state judge issued an injunction Wednesday that bans the International Longshoremen’s Association from interfering with activities at the South Carolina State Ports Authority.

The injunction came in response to last Thursday’s violent clash between ILA members and police at Charleston’s Columbus Street Terminal. The ILA was protesting Nordana Line’s use of a non-union stevedoring company at the terminal.

State Attorney General Charlie Condon obtained the injunction from Circuit Judge Danny Martin.

The injunction, valid for six months, limits ILA pickets to 19 persons, and prohibits the ILA from “intimidating, by means of violence or threat of violence” at or near port terminals.

Nordana’s next ship calls at Charleston this weekend.
