As a Crane Operator in Local 10 and Local 19, I remember a few times being asked to load or unload double empties.
I said no, locking cones are for locking, not for lifting. Once the Foreman saw I wouldn’t do it, they always backed down.
It’s very simple, It’s unsafe.
There was a letter from a cone maker the union had along time ago. In which they said their cones were not meant for lifting.
Enough said.
