The following motion was passed at the membership meeting of ILWU Local 10 on January 20, 2000.

Motion To Support Longshore Workers Protests

Whereas, longshoremen in the port of Charleston, South Carolina while defending their jobs by protesting against a non-union stevedoring operation were attacked yesterday by police, and

Whereas, at the same time, 100,000 Indian dockworkers are striking against starvation wages and for a decent wage increase, and

Whereas, the Indian government has called out the army, the navy, the coast guard and police to break the strike by attacking union pickets and doing longshore work,

Therefore be it resolved that ILWU Local 10 immediately send a message of solidarity to ILA Local 1422 in Charleston and the All-India Port and Dock Workers Union and protest the use of state forces against the workers.
