Govern Ourselves

Carol,

I couldn’t agree with you more. Truck #245 is sitting at the mechanic shop at apl due to the fact that it is involved in a litigation case where someone chose to drive too fast and/or chose not to stop at the painted stop markings (& we all know where they are & what to do when we get to them) on the ground. Most importantly we need to govern ourselves by doing the following steps:

1) driving 10 mph (last I checked we do not get paid by the move).

2) stopping at all stop lines.

3) contacting the dock boss & the clerk boss & notifying them that action must be taken for safety in the yard or you will contact the business agents.

4) & lastly, if the situation does not change, if the bosses do not act appropriately or if safety in your opinion does not improve then make the call to the business agents which is your right & in everyone’s (most importantly your) best interest.

You also notice that the superintendants/terminal managers don’t say anything because they would be causing their own employer to lose money, big money.

So do what is right & within your rights. hope this helps. Happy new year!
