To all Brothers and Sisters of the ILWU
As of the January 25 executive board meeting a motion was brought before the board that states“ ILWU Local #19 supports the ILA in Charleston in their fight against the non-union stevedoring company ”. This motion passed unanimously with a lot of vocal support. This motion will have to go before the general membership in February where we will have more time to discuss this.
I myself think of the subtle attacks that have been happening all around the world against organized labor and wonder when this sleeping giant (organized labor) will wake up. Please get the word out on the job and in our halls to send a strong message coast wide. Sometimes we all wait for direction from higher up, but I still think the rank and file have a larger voice because we live in the community at large.
