Warren, right on! Also, I wonder just how many have died from cancer because of all the chemicals, etc. that we work around. Just in the past year and this year, we have lost alot of people from different types of cancer. Too many for not being work related! Alot of retirees in their 60’s have died shortly after retiring from cancer. Just wonder how hard it would be to prove that it is work related?

Did you ever notice when a worker is killed on the job in our industry it’s on the back pages.

Warren, I’m curious: Did you get the life-insurance policy? Do you have to pay an extra-high premium because of the nature of your work? I’m also interested in what others might have to report on the matter.

I looked into a life insurance policy and when I got a quote it was quite reasonable. However, when I mentioned that I worked on the waterfront, the adjuster told me that a higher premium would apply due to the dangerous work enviornment.

Doesn’t the ILWU offer a group plan?

RKINSF

for the last 10 or 15 years, yes. but prior to that we had to work directly with the insurance companies to have insurance.

Warren

The group plan is medical insurance. Should you die or are killed on the job, your family only gets $20, 000. So, thats why you need a Life insurance policy.
