Longshore delegates from the militant San Francisco / Oakland ILWU Local 10 joined the picket line in Charleston, South Carolina on 24 Feb. Their counterparts in ILA Local 1422 are fighting Danish shipping line NORDANA which switched to non-union stevedores in December. Last month, 8 Charleston pickets were arrested, and 4 were later indicted for riot and conspiracy. ILWU members Lawrence Thibeaux (Local 10 President) and Jack Heyman (Local 10 Executive Board) carried a mandate from 9 longshore locals in Northern California and the Inland Boatmens Union (San Francisco). Both the ILWU and sacked Liverpool dockers have sent funds to support Charleston.
