David Zahniser confused

Dear Daily Breeze folks,

In his March 25th article about the current casual lawsuit, David Zahniser, repeatedly confuses International Longshore and Warehouse Union membership with joint ILWU/PMA registration.

There are hundreds of jointly registered waterfront workers in the LA/LB harbors, working every day and getting paid by the Pacific Maritime Association, who are not Union members.

Conversely, there are many ILWU members (nation-wide, tens of thousands) who are not jointly registered workers, who therefore do not and cannot work at longshore jobs for PMA employers.

Since the legal action is in the news, involves millions of dollars and has to do with the lives and careers of thousands of people in the community where this paper is circulated, it would seem more than appropriate that a writer would learn the difference before committing such erroneous comments to print.
