The International Movement that came to the aid of the Liverpool Dockworkers during their 28-month struggle is still very much alive and active. It is keen to build on the good work and solidarity achieved at the Liverpool, Montreal and Gothenburg conferences, by finalising a number of very important constitutional structures that will enable the movement to advance and evolve.
Liverpool Dockworkers, have been asked to send out formal invites to those supportive unions and ports outside of Europe, to attend the next full conference of the International Dockers Council. (The Swedish Dockworkers Union and The Coordinadora in Spain will send out invitations to the unions of Northern and Southern Europe).
After considering requests from all the supportive unions, the Coordinadora as conference hosts have now set final dates for the what will be the first Constitutional Conference of the newly named International Dockers Council.
The new dates, will be Monday 26th June to Wednesday 28th June. The venue for the conference will be Tenerife. The Coordinadora would like to combine the business of the IDC with a tribute to that great internationalist and supporter of the Liverpool Dockworkers Paco who tragically died whilst working at the Port of Tenerife last year.
So far unions from the east and west of America, Canada, France, Sweden, Cyprus and Denmark have agreed to attend what should turn out to be a historic occasion for dockworkers the world over.
