What happened to Philly
and LA demo plans?

As I read the LA Times article I couldn’t help but wonder what happened to the idea that there were going to be demonstrations in both Philadelphia (the site of the Republican convention) and at the Democratic convention in LA on a huge scale like the WTO conventions in Seattle late last year.

What a perfect time for not only for labor, but farmers, enviromentalists, people of color, our elder citizens, small business folk, amoung others, who have been left out, passed over or have had a large multi-national corporation run them out of business courtesy of those in political office in the good ol’ USA. I know that some of you are going to cry foul at calling accounting with the good ol’ Democrats are there to protect us!! But where exactly have they been the last 8 years when more anti-Labor legislation has been passed since the late 1910’s and 20’s. It must be remembered that Clinton signed ALL of this legislation and that NONE of it was legislated by a 2/3 majority. Not to mention that the Democrats (it wasn’t just Bill Clinton but we at least knew he would turn on us before the election when after the convention he came out FOR Nafta and the WTO concept and we still backed his “right to work” ass) broke almost every promise it made to labor, the greens, Gays, people of color, the elderly, farmers, etc., they made in 92 to win the White House.

It must be obvious that the Democratic Party has been taken over by the Good Ol’ boy, southern Democrats (and they don’t make a more anti-Labor bunch then these folks) that have preached a more “centerist” (i. e. exclusionary) theme to cast the illusion that this is the only way to win national elections. Which is completely untrue if you look ay the facts. Clinton won in 92 not because of the “economy stupid” but because all of those that I have mentioned before came out in droves to vote for him. But Clintons out and we get Gore. O boy, or like they say down yonder – that dog don’t hunt.

Gores only chance is to run on the economy and with gas prices the way they are the economy is more than likely to turn a little south. Not to mention he will be constantly dodging darts by a very organized and ruthless Republican party under Bush. We have been given a little insight on just HOW Bush is when McCain started to cause him some problems and he vilified him like an adopted red-headed stepchild. McCain is still licking his wounds and Bush plans to bleed Gore early, slowly and completely before November.

And if Bush is elected?? Well labor, greenies, people of color, the poor, etc will start to feel as welcome in the USA as a Jew in Germany 1936. And Philadelphia, that cradle of Liberty, is welcoming him with open arms. There is speculation that they (the Republican National Committee) are hoping to execute Mumia just in time for the Republican convention. Think I am kidding?? The tentative execution date is just days before the convention opens. And Mumia is about out of appeals and can’t expect any help from the Supreme Court and both he and his lawyers know this. The Pennsylvania governor is pushing hard for this and who better to be the Master of Ceremonies?? Why the guy that presides over an execution a week, George Bush. Now thats Law and Order for y’all!! Here’s a little fact about George W. Bush that the “media” didn’t put out. Remember that man (my apologies but his name escapes me) in Texas that was dragged to his death by Klan/Nazi group of poor excuse for human beings?? Well his Daughter had a campaign in Texas to pass a hate crime bill. She brought it to Bush in person at the Governors mansion, who not only would not sign (according to her he would not even take it from her hands) it but put pressure on Texas legislators not to pass the bill. Ya feeling a little safe now??

Which leaves me with 2 questions. . . . . . . .

1. How can anyone who backed the causes that were demonstrated for with such passion in Seattle vote for either of these sleaze buckets or their parties?????

2. How come the same folks who backed the Seattle WTO causes that rocked the multi-nationals, and their lackeys, to their feet pass up on an opportunity like this???????

Is this a call to arms?? I certainly hope so. . . . . . . . . . We certainly will not have another one like it, and quite possibly will not be legally able to do so in the future. Look what demonstrating and picketing got the Longshoreman in South Carolina. You have just seen the future if we do not demand to be heard and accounted for in the political conventions this summer. . . . . . . . . . . .
