Please attend the rally at Powell’s Books on May 1 for International Workers day and a FAIR FIRST CONTRACT for Powell’s workers.
Last Monday was the last scheduled “bargaining” session which lasted 9 hours and finished with management walking away from the table with no movement on wages or union shop. Instead they have proposed increased health care costs, rolling paid lunches into wages (resulting in pay cuts for new employees hired after implementation- making the lowest starting wage equivalent to less than minimum wage), no successor clause, and no closed shop!
We need the support of ILWU members who will be at the conference! Please join Powell’s workers and the Portland community at Powell’s at 5pm. We must live up to our promise that if we are without a contract May 1st, there will be action! It is imperative that delegates come out in big numbers!!
