As a trade union type of guy, until and unless ANY country both endorses and shows sings of complying with these very basic concepts the fundamental rights from which any effective labor movement derives its strength and direction I will not help that government in any way, if I can possibly avoid it. The likelihood of the present government of China making my friend list is about as remote as the likelihood of the Convention resolution junket producing anything but a few more stamps on a few more passports. Enjoy the trip!
It might be a good idea to add a few other places to the itinerary of this trip, including Panama, for example, so we could find out whats doing with those RTGs-transtainers-yard cranes that were sent there from Seattle. You know, just in case it was SSA. See what kind of conditions they work under, how many longshoremen, clerks and bosses man the place. And watchmen, too, of course. That last figure might well exceed what were used to in the States.
There might be some people made very uncomfortable by an assertive delegation, if it is allowed into the country, both here as well as in China, and other lands. ILWU actions sometimes deserve the description, edgy. On the edge, over the edge. . .
Anyway what if the delegation not only reported to the IEB, but got hooked into one of those web-cam outfits, to report directly to the internet audience. It might not be as titillating as some coed dorm rooms, but could attract an audience to the ILWU webcast.
