Support for McWilliams in Hawaii

Brother Tim,

I won’t comment on the majority of your post, as there are many people who have chimed in on this issue and I believe will continue. What I do want to comment on is some of your final statements in your post. I agree with you that Spinosa will only be interested in serving Southern Cal. and will have little interest or motivation for anyone or anything else.

As for the “Rumor Mill” about the Hawaiians supporting Spinosa, this is far from the truth. First I must admit that I am strongly in support of McWilliams and Hoshijo, but in this support I have been talking with hundreds of brothers and sisters all over Hawaii and the Rank & File support McWilliams and Hoshijo. I and many others think we would be fools to support Spinosa and then watch as he turns his back on Hawaii for the next three years. As for Leonard Hoshijo he has a plan that is working. Hoshijo’s plan has thousands of new members that voted to join the ILWU and continues to be a success. I think most of the Rank and File can see the opportunism and lack of desire to lead the whole of this great Union in the Spinner slate.
