The Harry Bridges Institute for International Education & Organization would like to invite you to hear a presentation by Ray Ortiz (ILWU Coast Committeeman) and Ray Familathe (ILWU Local 13 Executive Board Member and past International Transport Workers Federation Inspector) who participated in an International Dockers Conference (IDC) recently in the Canary Islands, off Spain with Dockers from around the world. Both Ray Ortiz and Ray Familathe will be making presentations as well as a video showing of the struggle of the Spanish workers since the end of the fascists Franco Regime in 1976.
This forum will be held on Friday, August 11, 2000 at 6:00 PM at Raffaellos Restaurant located at 400 S. Pacific Avenue in San Pedro, CA. The dinners will be $20. 00 to pay expenses and will be on first come first serve basis. There are 100 tickets available for this dinner engagement so please let us know if you plan to attend.
The Institute is looking forward to seeing you at this first forum and we are already projecting a second presentation in approximately one month later on the recent trip to Cuba by representatives of the ILWU and the Harry Bridges Institute, Al Green (ILWU Local 13 member); Tony Salcido and Al Perisho both members of the Southern California Pensioners Group in Southern California. They were able to participate in a conference and rally of the maritime workers in Havana and met with the leadership of that Union and brought back important observations and their experiences.
