Hawaiian Vice President Election Re-Run

ILWU Local 10
2 Oct 2000

Whereas the International Election Procedures Committee found no cause for the re-running of election for Hawaiian Vice President, and

Whereas the International Executive Board has chosen to overturn the decision of the IEPC and defy the will of the rank and file of this union by their decision to re-run this election, and

Whereas not all the facts were known at the time the IEB rendered it’s decision and new, pertinent, and highly relevant information, directly related to, and reflecting upon the IEB’s decision has since come to light, and

Whereas the ILWU is based upon rank and file democracy and control and the re-running of any democratically conducted election is a matter of grave concern striking at the heart of our founding principles and the ideals upon which this Union has been created, THEREFORE BE IT,

RESOLVED, the membership of this Local calls upon the International Officers, and the members of the IEB to do the “right thing“ in regards to this matter. Specifically this Local demands the decision of the IEB to re-run the Hawaiian VP election be held in abeyance until the IEPC is reconvened in order for this new evidence and information to be considered. AND BE IT FURTHER,

RESOLVED, that upon the rendering of the IEPC’s decision this Local calls upon the IEB to render it’s final decision based upon the merits, facts and evidence in accordance with our International Constitution and all applicable labor laws.
