It has been proposed by our Swedish comrades and supported by the Coordinadora in Spain that a small sub-committee of the IDCs European Members meet to discuss and formulate a common policy in response to the EU Ports Directive Questionnaire (DG TREN).
Originally a venue for the meeting was sought in Hamburg but because of the time factor and the need to make sure that we influence the commission with our views before ratification in December, Liverpool have been asked to host the meeting on Friday 3rd November and Saturday 4th November.
We have told both Sweden and Spain that at a push we could hold the meeting in Liverpool but the delegates would have to accept that our building has yet to be completed and whereas we could comfortably host a meeting for between 12/15 delegates, building work will still be taking place on certain parts of the ground floor. Also for Liverpool to host the meeting the full costs of accommodation etc, would have to be met by the delegates, but comrades can count on us to help out with the organisation, invitations and publicity for the meeting.
The short amount of time that we have to work in, will mean that delegates who wish to attend the meeting will have to make their own travel arrangements directly to Liverpool as soon as possible. Delegates will also have to make their own arrangements for translation. We in Liverpool can make provisional bookings at a nearby hotel for a Thursday/Friday/Saturday short stay but delegates will have to confirm their attendance as soon as possible.
We apologise for the very short notice of the meeting but the importance of the issue needs to be addressed in a speedy and unified manner.
