The purpose of this letter is to communicate my concern, and that of all Spanish dockers whom I represent, for the conflict through which comrade dockers of Santos are now passing.
Years ago, in 1947, you, the Santos dockers showed solidarity with ourselves, carrying out a solidarity strike and support for all Spanish dockers. Now it is we who are supporting and showing solidarity with you, to try to mitigate this great conflict.
Also, as General Coordinator of the International Dockworkers’ Council (IDC), please receive my most sincere support and solidarity.

The workers of the Port of Santos, whether stevedores or not, have already made their contribution to the process of modernization to a much greater extent than other social actors. They have conceded 45% of their income in the last six years. It is necessary to find democratic means to break the impasse. Down with un-necessary, stupid, and senseless violence. Justice and peace for the port and its workers.
