Brother Brocchini,

The dramatic photographs from the nonunion Charleston newspaper have been posted previously on the ILWUlistbot. But the important point to remember is that the rioting took place AFTER THE POLICE BLUDGEONED ILA PRESIDENT KEN RILEY WITH A CLUB requiring him to go the hospital for some 19 stitches. Unfortunately, that picture is missing. Also the pictures by this scab photographer and TV videos have been used in court by right-wing South Carolina Attorney General Condon against both ILA Locals 1422 and 1771. What happened in Charleston was similar, but on a smaller scale, to what happened on the docks on the West Coast in the ’34 strike – maritime workers on one side vs cops and press on the other. For a more complete picture of the Charleston struggle you should visit ILWU’s website at www.ilwu.org or the Liverpool-based website www.labournet.net/docks2/other/update.htm

Stop the frame-up of the Charleston 5 and their unions!
Drop the charges and the lawsuit!
Solidarity with the ILA against state/employer attacks!
No work on June 25th, the first day of the trial!
Victory to the Charleston 5!

In solidarity,

Jack Heyman
