Dear Friends

I hope this finds you fighting fit and feeling strong. . as you may know, I am a film maker who made a doco on the MUA (Maritime Union or Australia) dispute of 1998 from the rank and file workers perspective (Solidarity and Unity) and now live with a ‘Wharfie’ who instead of taking the redundancy package transfered to another stevedoring company - CSX (here in Brisbane, Australia). Yesterday, the manager announced that Patricks have bought the company and the workforce (including management and tradesmen) will no longer be required. . . this has all just happened so the shock is immense. . I’m sure you will understand the rank and file joined a union to fight for their jobs not to roll over. . the rank and file need all the support they can get. . . please distribute this information seeking solidarity and media attention to support these workers facing unfair dismissal.

It’s vital that news of the workers plight gets out there. . they must not be isolated. . anyone who feels a need to support the MUA workers from this latest attack on a unionised working class culture in an election year would be doing an important service of solidarity. . . . could you let the right people know. . or pass on emails to the workers urgently to
