Port Security Bill

Steve Stallone (2 Nov) and Peter Cantu (1 Nov 2001)

Attached is the full 81 page latest version of the port security bill. The relevant stuff on longshore worker screening, including the list of 22 felonies, is on pages 25-28. Note the vagueness and open-ended loop hole of the last one-“Any other offense specified by the Secretary [of Transportation].” This is extremely dangerous. The ILWU Coast Committee, the Coast Legislative Action Committee and the ILWU Washington D. C. lobbying staff have been working like crazy to deal with this. Phone calls, letters and emails to Congress are needed. Especially hit California Senators Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein and South Carolina Senator Ernest Hollings who chairs the committee the bill is in. We need all the help we can get.

Hello my name is Peter Cantu #9398 a “b” man from local 10 in San Francisco. I just wanted to let everyone know that the two bills in question can be seen at the U. S. Senate website. I looked at the senate bill #1214 and the H. R. bill #3013 and the actual felonies that are mentioned are listed and total 5. Murder, Espionage, Treason, Unlawfull gun sales and unlawfull drug sales. It is my understanding that they will be going back 10 years if they get the o. k. I know some people say there looking for 22 felonies but I couldn’t find that in writing.
