A hunger strike will begin on 30 August in response to the clear insensitivity of the operator of Corrientes Port Terminal, Agencia Chaco SA, whose director Juan Manuel Rosas has ignored the demands of 8 unjustly sacked workers, along with the Port and Labour authorities who disregard irregularities in Agencia Chaco’s operation including violations of employment law, health and safety.
This union has pursued all avenues in seeking a peaceful solution to this conflict. We have met with the Public Works Minister Arturo Colombi, Ports Director agronomist Gustavo Sabio, Under Secretary of Labour Dr. Eduardo Vicchi, Marcelo Servello of the Corrientes Regional Agency (National Ministry of Labour), and also delivered files denouncing the conflict to Provincial Governor Dr. Horacio Ricardo Colombi and Provinical deputies and senators. There have been 4 demonstrations at the company, so that no-one could pretend not to notice and all would have the same responsibility, in case of risk to the health of the comrades.
This dispute will have the support and the solidarity of comrades in the Buenos Aires General Administration of Ports (AGP), of workers and staff in the Southern Dock Port and also of comrades in the ports of San Nicolás and La Plata.
This action is backed by the International Dockworkers Council (IDC) which represents over 60, 000 portworkers worldwide.
