The list known as Union-d aims to promote online dialogue, information sharing and organisation between active trade unionists who have access to an internet email box.
The list has grown out of a small group of mainly UK based trade unionists who had established an email corresponding group to share information and ideas.
It is now intended to promote the list more aggressively and seek to involve a wide range of trade unionists. The emphasis is on developing networks between European trade unions with a view to provide a platform for dialogue and to encourage exchange of experiences.
It is a clear aim to promote the list so that it is seen as an easy way for trade unionists coming on line in Europe to plug into an established and sympathetic network. The only requirement is to have access to a standard internet email address. This therefore means that trade unionists can participate regardless of which host system they are using and will obviously assist in drawing all online trade unionists into a closer community.
In this way we hope to undermine the isolation that many trade unionists feel when opening a mail box for the first time. They know the potential of online communication but they dont know who to contact and nobody knows to contact them. So all too often, in our experience, trade unionists give up checking their mail box after a few weeks of receiving nothing.
Union-d will be an easy way for online trade unionism to be promoted, by unions themselves, by other online trade unionists and by sympathetic organisations.
