Liverpool Docks Update

Striking Liverpool Dockers announced a major boost to their campaign to gain reinstatement in the Port, yesterday.

The giant ACL company instructed its flagship the Atlantic Conveyor to re route to another UK port away from Liverpool after the company had come under pressure from the International Longshoremens Association in the United States.

The Association threatened blacking actions against the company in the US if the company used the strike bound port. Although both the company and the port denied the story, the dockers leaders were delighted.

Assistance:

Assistance is now needed to locate links with Australian dockers because the strikers are aware of ships en route from Australia. Union-d colleagues are asked once again to help identify email addresses of contacts in Australia and email them to me.

In addition there is to be a debate in the European Parliament on the dispute because of the high levels of European Union funding that the Mersey Dock and Harbour Company have received. Would European colleagues please request their MEPs to support the call for investigation by the parliament into the use of theses monies.

Thanks for all the help.
