There was jubilation in the sacked dockers' HQ when the news that the communication workers had decided to sponsor them for a week to the tune of £35,000.
It was an act of selfless solidarity. The CWU had already recognised the need for industrial action of their Royal Mail members.
Composite Emergency Motion E19 in the name of 13 branches was carried unanimously:
This Conference reaffirms its support for the sacked Liverpool dock workers.
On entering the ninth month of the dispute the need for solidarity both financially and physically is of the utmost importance.
Conference notes that the dispute has now reached a financial crisis and therefore agrees to:
1. Donate £35,000 immediately to sponsor the dispute for a week.
2. Promote and actively support the national demonstration in Liverpool on 29 June and any future events called by the Liverpool dockers.
