International dockers write to Bill Morris TGWU

from: International Dockworkers Committee

Le Havre, 28 October 1996

to: Bill Morris, General Secretary TGWU

Dear Brother Morris,

Following the International Dockers' Conferences held in England in support of the just demands of the sacked Liverpool Dockworkers (Feb '96 and Sept. '96) it was agreed that an INTERNATIONAL DOCKWORKERS COMMITTEE be elected and mandated to coordinate all forms of supporting actions for dockers worldwide.

The only purpose and objective of this International Committee is to create a movement of solidarity in the dockers' profession, which is now internationally threatened.

It is clear that the first action of this International Committee is to see the reinstatement of the Liverpool Dockers in their jobs with their dignity.

Following a meeting of this International Committee held in Paris in October, it is urgent that a small delegation from this International Committee meet with you as the General Secretary of the TGWU, to firstly give you the opportunity to know who we are, and secondly to receive the position of the TGWU in this dramatic struggle.

We do insist on the urgency of this meeting and will respond to any date and venues you may suggest.

Yours fraternally,

Patrick Minot
