Re:

Sacked Dockworkers in Liverpool, UK

Dear Sir,

Our organisation, Swedish Dockworkers Union, have taken industrial action in support of the just demand of reinstatement being put forward by the sacked dockworkers in Liverpool.

ACL vessels have been delayed for 12 hours from arrival before being handled in the Port of Gothenburg. ACL containers - as well as CAST - have been boycotted on the 30th September 1996 and 21st January 1997 in all Swedish ports where we have a say.

Merseyside Port Shop Stewards are now putting forward a new idea to reach a just and acceptable solution to the Liverpool Dockworkers struggle. This includes the setting up of a Labour Supply/Hiring Hall Plan being run by the dockworkers supplying labour to all areas of the Port of Liverpool.

We urge you to support this plan that, to our mind, also would be beneficial to your company.

We like to make it clear that we very much prefer to put forward our point in this way, rather than being forced to take industrial action in support of our brothers in Liverpool and in the long run for our own sake to secure our jobs in the ports.

Yours truly

SWEDISH DOCKWORKERS UNION
