"Conspiracy to murder" fiasco by police

The Guardian (Monday 14 April) carries a full report of the 12 April London demo in support of Liverpool dockers, now described as 20,000 strong. It clarifies that the police have dropped the charge of attempted murder against the van driver. It turns out that the van was attempting to deliver a sound system to the street party in Trafalgar Square. When the police blocked its way, the van eventually breached police lines with help from other demonstrators. Several hours later, on leaving the Square, the van was impounded and a charge of "conspiracy to murder" was announced over the radio. Effective propaganda!
