Being Mrs Andrea Stauffacher's lawyer, I have been repeatedly asked by the media these last few days to comment.
Mrs Andrea Stauffacher is still in custody. The media's smear campaign before and also after May 1st (giving Andrea Stauffacher's full name and showing a picture of her) has born fruit. For instance, the district attorney thinks he can continue keeping her in custody (saying she might coordinate her testimony with others). The command of the cantonal police is acting out a power game which defies description and shows a rarely seen contempt for human beings.
During a search of her house, Mrs Andrea Stauffacher had her hands tied behind her back and her feet were tied together so that she could neither walk nor even stand. She had to lie on the floor for two hours. During that time, the house was being guarded by at least 4 officers in uniform; the actual search of the house was done by 7 (!) officers of the cantonal and city police.
Mrs Andrea Stauffacher is only allowed on her daily walk in the prison courtyard when isolated from her fellow inmates, guarded by numerous police officers, and surrounded by the bars in the Kaserne yard. During her walk, her hand are tied behind her back with handcuffs. A note on the door to her cell warns that only two officers together may open the door. After each visit by her lawyer she has to go through a full body search including intimate areas -- an utterly degrading procedure.
This demonstration of power ordered from the top of the hierarchy can only be understood as a manifestation of the climate created by the media and by bourgeois and social democratic politicians alike.
