Dear Comrade,

Please convey our support to 500 Dockworkers and their families, on your inspirational struggle.

Today, September 8th 1997, we are taking part in the International Day of Action. Along with dockworkers representatives, we will visit the British Embassy in Tokyo, along with visits to O.O.C.L. and Shipping.

Dockworkers representatives will be allowed to state their demands at these meetings which are outlined below.

  1. We are demanding shipping companies world wide to boycott sailings to and from the Ports of liverpool and Sheerness. This also includes Slot Sharing Schemes that are in operation with CAST, CanMar, and ACL.
  2. Failure to do so will result in ongoing direct actions against shipping companies and vessels using M.D.H.C. controlled ports.
  3. We demand that the British Government intervene in this long running dispute.

Each company/Embassy will be asked to fax messages and letters of support to:

  1. Trevor Furlong, M.D.H.C.
  2. Margaret Beckett, D.T.I.
  3. Tony Blair, Prime Minister

These actions and demands are fully supported by the National Council of
Dockworkers Unions of Japan, ZENKOKU-KOWAN.

Yours in Solidarity

September 8th, 1997.

Endo Ichiro
General Secretary, National Union of General Workers, Japan.
