Robert Irminger, Chair Of The Golden Gate Chapter of the Labor Party and Inland Boatman's Union Executive Board member and Jack Heyman, ILWU 10 Exective Board member and member of the East Bay Chapter of the Labor Party will be on the national Pacifica program "Democracy Now" on Monday December 8, 1997.
They will report on the successful picketing of the Neptune Jade ship in Oakland, California because of the of scab cargo from a port run by the Merseyside Docks And Harbour Company. The ship was unable to unload it's cargo not only in Oakland but in Van couver, Canada and Japan.Fired Liverpool dockers have been striking the Merseyside Docks and Harbour Company for over 2 years to fight privatization and to get their jobs back.
Since the Oakland picket in early November, the Pacific Maritime Association and the Yusen Termial have sued not only Irminger and Heyman but the Golden Gate Chapter of the Labor Party as well as the Laney Studies Student Group and the Peace and Freedom Party. The companies have also sued the ILWU for damages. The San Francisco Labor Council, the Alameda Labor Council, former California governor Jerry Brown and Congressman Ron Dellums as well as many others have urged support for the ILWU and the picketers.
Efforts are now being made for a tour in January of Labor Party Chapters in the East Coast and Mid-West of speakers from the Liverpool Dockers Victory Defense Committee.
