London Picket Called Off

The wharfies are all returning to work this afternoon having been reinstated by the High Court. We have therefore cancelled picketing the OZ High Commission as our urgent demand was for reinstatement.

I am meeting with High Commission Representatives at 2.30 p.m. BST to make known our concern at :-

Allan Challis

Thanks, Allan!

Allan,

On behalf of unionists everywhere I'd like to thank you for the solidarity action you and your comrades have taken. There is a real feeling of optimisim in Australia at the moment - solidarity is not just a word that leftwingers mouth, but it is a living reality.

What a better world we would be living in if workers everywhere in the world took action whenever any group of workers in any country in the world were attacked by some chest-beating boss.

I feel incredibly sorry for the Liverpool dockers at present. How different their brave struggle could have turned out if they had received the support they deserved. Today at our demonstration in Melbourne we received a taped message of support from Monks, the head of the TUC in the United Kingdom. How ironic considering that union official types like him sold out the Liverpool dockers.

Solidarity,

Tony Hartin
