VICTORY!!!!!! Thanks to all who joined us in keeping the Columbus Canada out in the ocean for 16 days! The boat with the scab loaded cargo has been shipped back at a cost of $10 million. The company also agreed to drop any legal charges against the ILWU and community group members who picketed in the harbor.
THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!!!!!!!!
The government of Australia is continuing its efforts to destroy the Maritime Union of Australia.
After World War 1 and the attacks on US waterfront unions that followed, it was the Australian maritime unions that helped keep unionism alive on the west coast. American companies had to use union crews or they would not have been able to unload in Australia.
The maritime unions of Australia have used their strategic position as dock workers and seamen to help union struggles in South Africa, Chile...Now is our opportunity to help them.
At risk is our ability to wage international campaigns of worldwide solidarity!
PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHED LEAFLETS AND DISTRIBUTE IT AS WIDELY AND URGENTLY AS POSSIBLE!!!!
Its in both English and Spanish.
