ILWU Local 75 K-Line Picket (19 Dec)

Greetings to the list from ILWU Local 75 in San Francisco.

Local 75 has been picketing the TransBay (K line) terminal in the Port of Oakland for several months now in an attempt to organize the security guards who work their and are employed by American Protective Services. We have been conducting "area standards picketing" as a means to bring economic pressure on the company to send a letter to A.P.S. to terminate their contract. The plan is/was to have our brothers in locals 10 (stevedores), 34 (clerks) and 91 (walking bosses) simply observe the safety regulations at this facility i.e.; 10 MPH speed limit, and to have the tractor operators leave the tractors cab while under the hook.

Although the officers of these locals have agreed to have their members observe the safety regs, they will not do so. Now it seems to me that if the same locals can take on the PMA over picketing the Neptune Jade, or give support to the MUA, demonstrating a little bit of "solidarity" with their brothers in local 75 should be a piece of cake....

APS watchmen earn $10.00 per hr with no benefits, no retirement program, no paid vacation or holidays.

I feel better now having gotten that off my chest.
