Your Union negotiators have demanded that all employer charges against longshoremen, from the period beginning may 18th to contract agreement be dropped. It was reported at the Local #8 stop work meeting on July 14th that the employers have attacked various Union members up and down the coast for upholding Union convictions in their attempts to help secure a strong Union contract.
In Portland we have serious charges by the employers against two of our members. Brother Glover #7735 who began his longshore career in local #10 (and still carries that militant #10 attitude, thank god) is accused of allegedly pushing Scott Munger, the chairman of the pmas labor relation committee. Munger is a piece of #@#* and is after Glover for a year on the beach. Futher more, Local #8 member, Brother Leistiko #81683 who on the same job was accused to have used foul, abusive, and threatening language, and assault on a CASUAL foreman (who forgot where he came from) by kicking a soft, pliable, orange safety cone, that accidently hit the scumbag in the knee. PMA is after Brother Leistiko for DEREGISTRATION.
We have also heard reports that certain Local #10 members have had employer charges against them for upholding legitimate manning concerns. And finally it has been reported that Local #13 president Mike Freeze has been charged for allegedly threatining a superintendent when the capt. of a container vesses kicked off the longshoremen and had the crewmen do the lashing.
There are probably more cases that we do not know about. The point is we cannot have ANY sacrificial lambs. We must support the Union negotiators demand for amnesty.
Please let your delegate from your area know that we will NOT ACCEPT A CONTRACT UNTIL ALL CHARGES AGAINST ALL MEMBERS ARE DISMISSED.
AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL
