Dear Brothers and Sisters
When I posted the contract highlights, there was some confusion as to how much the raise is for each category.
Here is the clarification
*** Longshore
The basis longshore, and longshore skill categories I and II each receive a flat $1.00 per hour raise in year 1 of the contract, and a flat $0.50 per hour raise in both year 2 and year 3. No percentages are applied to this raise. By the end of the new contract. The 10% skill category will only be making 8% more than the basic longshore rate, and the 20% skill category will only be making 16% more than the basic longshore rate.
*** Clerks
The basic clerk receives a flat $1.00 per hour raise in year 1 of the contract, and a flat $0.50 per hour raise in both years 2 and 3 of the contract.
Supervisors and Supercargos receive a flat $0.50 per hour raise in year 1 of the contract, and a flat $0.25 per hour raise in both years 2 and 3 of the contract. No percentages are applied to this raise.
YES THATS RIGHT FOLKS - SUPERVISORS AND SUPERCARGOS WILL BE GETTING 1/2 THE RAISE THAT EVERYONE ELSE, INCLUDING ALL THE LONGSHOREMEN GET.
By the end of the contract the 15% supervisor will only be making 8% more than the basic clerk, the 25% supervisor will only be making 16% more than the basic clerk, and the 30% supercargos & chief supervisors will only be making 20% more than the basic clerk.
To my brother and sister clerks in Local 63, please let me know how you feel about this raise, and how your leader, Jim Spinosa, is going to take care of you. If he has a trick or two up his sleeve, wed like to be able to pass that information along to our leaders up here in Local 34.
Fraternally yours
