Re: Rules approved to cut coke dust in Harbor Area

I used to work at a coal facility for 3 1/2 yrs. the rule about coal and sulfur are exempt because they can be watered down is a joke, when LAXT first opened they said they had state of the art sprinklers, well so did the facility I work at there exactly the same they’re called rainbirds.

There is more coal in that facility than pet-coke {petrleum-coke} and you can see what it’s doing to those domes, so you can imagine how much coal is blowing in the wind. Where I used to work I turned on the rainbirds constantly. In order to control the dust you have to apply water constantly, but then comes the water bill$ and the company is interested in making a profit at all cost. Just don’t send them a water bill$.

The AQMD set up monitors around the facility and had even hooked me up all day, I felt like an astronaut and when the results came back, they said no harm will come to you. What a bunch of baloney. It goes on and on, if anybody wants to hear more let me know. You have to understand one thing if you apply water to the coal when the ship is in it weighs the coal down and they lose a little because it’s wet. That’s why they don’t turn on the rainbirds. They’d rather have this stuff blowing around and not give a crap.

I talked to the guy’s that work on the toll bridge and they’re pissed, and I told them I know what you mean I’ve been there done that. Like I said you have to apply the water to keep dust down.

Thanks for listening.
