Letter to the ILWU

ILWU Locals
The International, Coast Committee and Negotiating Committee

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great concern we learn about the development on the US West Coast. The position of the employers seemingly is to try to undermine the position of the ILWU and the wages and conditions of ILWU members.

All the way through the Liverpool conflict and the Australian fight between MUA and Patrick Stevedoring together with the Australian government ILWU stood at the forefront of international solidarity and served as an example for all of us. That will never be forgotten and thus we want to express our deepest solidarity with the rank and file membership of the ILWU together with its leadership. We all now need to try to raise as much support as possible internationally to make sure that the employers realize that whereever they try to attack dockworkers and their unions and current industrial agreements they will meet resistance not only on a local level but also internationally.

On behalf of all membership ofthe Swedish Dockworkers Union we declare our full moral support and we are ready to give whatever possible practical support. We will furthermore ask of all unions being present at the Swedish Conference the International Dockworkers Committee to do the same thing.

Yours in solidarity

Swedish Dockworkers Union
