Continuing the solidarity forged in our April 1st waterfront power rally, Teamsters Local 174 is taking action in support of the longshore contract fight. Beginning today, Local 174 is passing out leaflets to their member truckers and to owner-operators at the Port of Seattle, urging them to show support for the ILWU. The leaflet reads, in part:
ILWU members are in the midst of an important fight for all port workers. Having good, family wage jobs at the Ports starts with the ILWU. Our investment of solidarity in support of the Longshore and Warehousemen will have big returns in the future for all port workers.
What can we do to support our Brothers and Sisters in the ILWU? Make sure that your loads are safe before leaving the pier. Do a Teamster safety check. Starting Tuesday, July 13, our campaign will set up Teamster safety checkpoints on certain piers. . . A ten minute investment in solidarity for our Brothers and Sisters in the ILWU will pay off ten-fold in the future!
Local 174 members are carrying picket signs in front of Seattle T-25 today, with a large wooden billboard declaring Teamster-ILWU solidarity. Theyll be at a different terminal each day.
