Times have not changed

To the casuals,

Times have not changed I see, I as a casual in 1962 I would get 1 day a week every other week. The week I got 1 day I went to the White Star moving and storage company and worked as a swamper on furniture moving. ( I always hoped the the people bought that extra insuarance). The week I did not get out as a casual I would not swamp as it screwed up my Unemployment. My weekly shopping was a 10 pound bag of spuds and a box of tea bags. I gave blood every 2 weeks under differant names just so I could eat all their cookies and drink their free juice. Now I am many years later a supercargo. And yes my casual friends if you hang in there you will reap the great benefits the union has to give you. But always remember, these bennies are what the ILWU is giving you, not the PMA!! Yes this is just one story about 1000’s of people and how they paid their dues to belong to the finest union in America. When it’s your turn to be a union official, please remember the times of your predecessors.
