Longshoreman Mike Melgoza, 47, became the third worker to die in 16 days at the Port of Long Beach. Melgoza was crushed when a 2,200 pound heavy equipment tire that had been taken off a ship fell over on him at Pier F.
Mechanic Rick Muller, 40, was killed at the Hanjin terminal on Aug. 20 while working high above the wharf on a crane.
Frank Hernandez, 48, was run over by a truck as he walked to the lunch wagon at the Sea-Land terminal on Aug. 27.
