And what dead cop are you talking about?? The one that Mumia was convicted of killing?? Are you suggesting that we as an entity (the ILWU) donate money to the cops widow??
Did the police donate to the widows or orphans of the men on strike that they murdered in the Big Strike of 34’?? Some of them were longshoremen, and all were working men. What about the hundreds of men, woman, and children that the cops have murdered the past hundred and fifty years of Unionism in this country??
As I spent my “wonder bread years” in the poor part of town I know how the cops treat working class people. Like Richard I have been beaten by the LAPD though I was not as “innocent” as Richard, I too have horror stories of the cops. Most poor people know of someone that the cops have killed under dubious at best circumstances.
One that haunts me to this day was when I was a junior in High School. The school had some undercover narcs trying to bust the “drug addicts” and of course everyone knew it the first day they (the cops) showed up. A couple of days later my friend and I were walking home when 4 of LA’s finest showed up and my friend ran because he had half a joint in his pocket. He was scarred (pot was a felony that you went to prison for back then in the 60’s) and it was a dumb thing to do.
Two cops opened fired and shot him 9 times in the back at about 25 feet. He was 16 years old. Then they laughed about it.... Justified police shooting.......
We as a United labor Collection of Working Class People believe that Mumia deserves another trial. It seems very clear that he was rail-roaded by the Philidelphia police. The same police that threw fire bombs down a chimney and murdered (my word) 20 plus woman and children that defied them. You ever hear of Frank Rizzo?? As corrupt as the LAPD is they will never be as corrupt as the Philly police. You should be donating money to the Free Mumia Defense Fund not the cops whose guns will be pointed at you if you ever put up a picket line.
