Is this going to be a forum on police brutality and the virtues of capital punishment?? If this is the case then as a man of Labor I believe that you have to take into consideration that ONLY the poor and/or people of color are executed.
And the idea of police, the modern police, coming from England. They were a private organization created by the rich during the “food” riots. People were starving and were sacking the homes of their masters (i.e. employers) for food (how dare they want to eat!!) and parliament authorized the creation of this private army (which was later made a public “police” force so the rich could have you taxed to pay for their protection from you) to protect the rich from those they were exploiting.
This was the first modern use of “police” as before it was always a military matter to control the populous. This is still they main task of the modern police today. Protect the property of the rich. So naturally they target (profile) people of color and basically workers.
You don’t believe this ask a Black Man to drive thru Beverly Hills someday and see what happens...... As for the case Albert is talking about I thought that they proved this woman was not on any kind of medication and was not being treated for any psychotic episodes. I could be mistaken on this as there are so many that are killed by the police it is hard to keep track of all the bodies.
Mrs. Love from Watts springs to mind though. Sixty-some year old Black woman shot numerous times by 2 of LA’s finest for brandishing a 2" paring knife over a dispute of a gas bill. It was proven later that she HAD paid her bill. Or the man naked up a light pole in Hollywood that would not come down. So the filled him full of lead as a persuasive technique.
But Albert let me see if I can follow your logic here. A woman with a pistol in her lap (not in her hand??) so the cop breaks the window (I assume all of the other cops knew he was going to do this so it was not a surprise when this heroic man of blue rushed to save a woman from herself), then slips (I assume on all of the foam coming out of her mouth), then these the valiant men of the blue cloth believing that one of their own had been shot (though none ever say that at any time did the woman have the pistol in her hand), though none never hear a pistol shot. So they open fire and shoot her how many times?? Unfortunate situation??
At the least you have an ill-trained, highly motivated force with a shoot and cover your ass later as SOP. Coupled with the fact (as presented by the FBI which including the LAPD and LA Co. Sheriffs) that almost every large metropolitan city police force has elements of groups in the ranks that cater to white supremacy movements and racist behavior. Is it any wonder that all this happens....
As Union workers you are targeted by the police (you are a threat to the “property” of the rich, as they view you and your labor as their “property” and they don’t like you organizing their “property”) as much as anyone. The police are not now, nor have they ever been a friend of the Labor movement. The police by definition are not there to protect you. They are there as a force to keep the wealth from spreading to the masses.
During the last riots in LA the police left every working class part of town and went to the wealthy sections to protect the property of the rich. And let everything else burn down. I know I was there I saw it. As a Union Worker and a Man of Labor I do not view the police as my friends. And that is what I teach my kids. I don’t teach them that all police are bad, just do not trust them, and do not believe them. You can believe what ever you want...........
