The Histadrut trades union federation and the workers councils of Haifa and Ashdod ports today announced that negotiations with the Ports Authority had broken down totally. They claim that the Ports Authority rejected the Histadrut and the workers’ request to resume negotiations tomorrow, following a breakdown that lasted several days.

According to the chairmen of the workers councils, the Ports Authority is deliberately seeking to create a crisis rather than engage in serious negotiations.

Negotiations between the parties are scheduled to be completed by Thursday next week.

At the end of last week, sources close to the issue warned that preparations must be made for a prolonged ports strike, because a settlement between the two parties was unlikely.
