For what it is worth, all we saw in the Nightly News playing the same thing *over and over again*, and we only saw what we believed was the “wannabee hippies, who forget that the 60’s are over”, protesting something for the sake of protesting, being bussed in to protest the killing of animals, green peace, etc. this is NOT what the WTO is about.
The WTO organizers have a perfect right to protest and stand up for what we believe in, BUT, I saw the beautiful buildings being marred with spay paint and the town turned upside down with people that wore *NO* union jackets, had *NO* union ties just damaging property that Union people worked hard to build to make Seattle the beautiful city that it is... Why are we so fast to jump on the officials of the cities, start blaming the media and TV coverage for showing only the gorey side of what is REALLY happening.
We watched over a full hour of “live” coverage and it showed only five min. of what the WTO was about and what they were doing and I am proud to say the civil way in which the ILWU behaved....
I feel we need to begin placing the blame where it really lays, and that is the MEDIA....without them and what they covered this would have been a relatively peaceful protest....yes, there are always some that ruin it for others, but don’t be so fast to blame.....and if you need to, put it where it truly belongs.....
I believe in free speach, the right to assemble....BUT, not what went on in the beautiful city of Seattle...Those were NOT ALL UNION PEOPLE..... Thanks for letting me vent..
