Hein du Plessis
|
Hein du Plessis is a South African based photographer specializing in social documentary. He worked as a press photographer for five years, and is now employed by a technological university. He co-produced a two-man exhibition on Images of Elderly Abuse, and one-man exhibitions on Facing AIDS in South Africa and The Legacy of Asbestos. The latter, which includes the images displayed here, has appeared at two venues in England and now touring. He is currently working on a book on Elderly People in South Africa. Hein du Plessis cites the American photographers Lewis Hine and Eugene Smith as influences. I strongly believe in the power of photographic imagery to change peoples attitudes, to stir emotions and to stimulate action. I am also inspired by my Christian faith. Hein du Plessis has received Press and Pro-photo awards, and is available for commissions in Africa and abroad. |
