Audrey van Schalkwyk, community representative from the Northern Cape SA who told the story of her family and its life and death in the asbestos community. Her parents worked in the abysmally unsafe asbestos mines and the kids used to go in and help when the mines needed extra production.

Audrey’s parents developed asbestosis. Audrey said she got to work in the TB hospital which was there because asbestos disease was was treated as TB. She now works in the general hospital where nurses were exposed to asbestos dust as injured asbestos workers came to be treated.
