MWAW condemns US attacks on Afghanistan

Media Workers Against the War (MWAW) have condemned today’s bombing of the cities of Kabul, Kandahar and Jalalabad as piling more pointless horror upon horror.

“All of us are shocked at the appalling loss of life in the terror attacks on the USA,” said Mike Marqusee, MWAW press officer.

“However any military assault on Afghanistan, one of the poorest countries in the world, will lead to more horrific loss of innocent human life. War is no solution to terror. We call for the building of the broadest possible movement to stop our leaders destroying yet more innocent human life.

“Tonight’s attacks in no way assist the apprehension of the perpetrators of the Sepember 11 atrocities. They will not deter terrorism, nor will they make anyone, anywhere, safer.

“Tonight some of us are going to Downing Street to protest, and tomorrow we will be in Trafalgar Square from 7pm.”

THE BIG PUBLIC MEETING FOR MEDIA WORKERS AGAINST THE WAR in London will be at 7. 30 pm on 10 October at the Camden Center, Bidborough Street, WC1, near Kings Cross tube, with John Pilger, Paul Foot, Rosie Boycott and John Foster (NUJ) speaking, and others TBA.
