JOBCENTRE CELEBRATES POVERTY WAGES.doc Hallo, We are a claimants group from Brighton & Hove investigating the operation of Employment Zones, particularly those run by the public private partnership called Working Links. If you have any information on how the Employment Zone works in your area, or know of any contacts in Employment Zone areas that could be of use, we would be very interested in hearing from you. The Employment Zones are: Birmingham, Brent, Brighton & Hove, Doncaster, Glasgow, Haringey, heads of the valleys and Caerphilly, Liverpool and Sefton, Middlesborough, Redcar and Cleveland, Newham, North West wales, Nottingham, Plymouth, Southwark, Tower Hamlets. Downloadable above are some leaflets weve produced. Weve been canvassing JobCentres and Working Links to gauge claimants experiences of the scheme and find allies. There certainly are some chilling tales floating around. Weve heard of claimants being bribed to sign off for 3 months and told it wouldnt affect their Housing Benefit, of claimants being sent to Employment Agencies that do Working Links job for them, of noone being responsible for complaints, of intimidating and patronising behaviour on the part of staff, and much more. We want to compile a dossier on Working Links worst practice that we can use for networking and counter-publicity. Wed be very interested in any stories or information from your area. There also seems to be a huge information deficit regarding what powers the Zone contractors actually have and where claimants rights fit into the scheme, if at all. The actively seeking work requirement of the JSA is suspended for the Employment Zone, so what power do they have to enforce a sanction, for example? If you want to contact us by post, the postal address is at the bottom of the attached leaflet. Hope to hear from you soon, AWOL (Abolish Working Links)
